FWB boys track tops at Max Bruner Relays

Staff Report In its first meet of the season, the Fort Walton Beach boys team had a good day. The Vikings, powered by five first-place finishes, won the Max Bruner Relays title with a team score of 135 points on Saturday at Choctawhatchee. The host Indians took fifth place as a team, while Crestview was eighth and Paxton was 10th. South Walton placed 11th as a team and Rocky Bayou was also there. On the girls side, pine Forest crushed the nine-team field with 212 points to claim the title. Crestview placed fourth for the highest local finish, paced by two second-place finishes. Fort Walton Beach?s girls were seventh, followed by Paxton (eighth), Choctaw (ninth), South Walton (10th) and Rocky Bayou (12th). Akeem Spence was the big winner for the Viking boys, taking first in the shot put and discus events, while Cody Skarupa was the top dog in the 1,600. The Vikings also claimed first in the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Fort Walton beach also had 10 other top-3 finishes, with Felton Payton and Charlie Lott each accounted for two of them. Choctaw?s LeKeefe Robinson matched Spence?s effort with wins at 100 and 200 meters. Trent Williams added to the victories for the Indians, winning the high jump. The Indians? 4x100 relay team took second, while Williams also took third in the long jump. For the girls, the lone victory by an area athlete was in the discus, captured by Paxton?s Erin Walker. Crestview?s Lauren Day had two runner-up finishes, taking second in both the 1,600 and 3,200. The Fort Walton Beach 4x800 team also finished second. Julie Williamson of South Walton took third in the 1,600 for the other local top-3 placing.
