Area wrestlers place in top 10 at state

Three area wrestlers finished in the top 10 in their respective weight classes at the state championships.
South Walton’s JuWayne Tanner and Fort Walton Beach’s Matt Cabanas each took fifth, while Niceville’s Will Jones placed sixth.
Tanner, who was 10th at state a year ago, won a 3-1 decision over John Snyder of Suwannee in the Class A 275-pound division.
Cabanas, who was a regional champion, defeated Kevin Lowery of Martin County in a 9-2 decision in the Class 2A 119-pound division.
Jones, at the state meet for the second time, was pinned by Nicholas Clarke of American in the 145-pound division of Class 3A in the fifth-place match.
