Niceville's Spock to compete today in 3A state swim meet
Niceville junior Ross Spock will be looking to follow up his record-breaking performance in the Region 1-3A swimming meet with another memorable outing at the state meet.
Spock will be competing in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke at today's 3A state swimming meet at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
The event comes on the heels of Spock's third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (53.23) and his fourth in the 100 freestyle (47.72) at the regional meet. Spock set new county records in both events, with his record-breaking time in the 100 backstroke coming in the preliminaries.
Last year at state, Spock finished 15th in the 100 freestyle. He also competed in the 100 backstroke but didn't make the cut after the preliminaries for the championship final or the consolation final.
Spock is the reigning Daily News Swimmer of the Year.
