Niceville track sweeps county meet

CRESTVIEW - While the Okaloosa County track meet was being held in Crestview, the confines were very friendly to Niceville.
The Eagles won both the boys and girls team titles on Tuesday, outdistancing Choctawhatchee in the girls and Fort Walton Beach on the boys side.
Niceville's boys scored 184 points to claim the championship, followed by the Vikings (129), Choctaw (103), Crestview (46), Baker (29) and Rocky Bayou (1). On the girls side, the Eagles had 134 points while the Indians scored 106. Crestview was third at 105, followed by Fort Walton Beach (87), Rocky Bayou (38) and Baker (22).
"It was a great day for us," Niceville coach Henry Spillers said.
Niceville's girls were led by Rachel Klinger and Anna Carr, who each won three individual events. Klinger won the high jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, while Carr bested the competition in the 100, 200 and 400. Kaitlin Davis won the discus, while the Eagles also got a first-place finish from their 1,600-meter relay team.
Bailee Hanle and Val Dixon both took home first place for Choctaw in the triple jump and 800, respectively. Crestview got first-place finishes from Lauren Day (3200), Dominique Maisonet (long jump) and its 400 and 3,200-meter relay teams.
Fort Walton Beach's Courtney Barnes placed first in the shot put, while Rocky Bayou's Holly Stanton won the mile.
On the boys side, Niceville had seven total winners, including five by individuals. Dylan Schroeder won the mile run, while Loring Ross was tops at 3,200 meters and the Eagles won the 3,200 relay. The sprints went just as well, with Stephen Haynes taking first in the 200, Marquis Jeffers placing first in the 300 hurdles and Ryan Howard winning the 400. The 400-meter relay team also won.
Fort Walton Beach was led by double winner Akeem Spence, who took home the shot put and discus titles. Cody Skarupa won the 800 and the Vikings' 1,600-meter relay team also won.
DeVonte Lawson won the 110 hurdles and the high jump for Choctaw, while Trent Williams was first in the long jump and Torey Thomas was tops in the triple jump. Lekeefe Robinson was victorious in the 100-meter dash.
