Freeport baseball falls in District 1-2A final

Freeport's first regional trip in 11 years will begin on the road.
The Bulldogs fell 3-2 in eight innings to Jay in the District 1-2A championship on Thursday.
Freeport (17-10) will travel for the regional quarterfinals on Tuesday. It will be the Bulldogs' first time advancing out of district play since 1997.
"I'm just real proud of how they played," Freeport coach Gene Martin said. "It was a well-played ballgame."
Freeport, the tournament host, scored both of its runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Josh Rhodes led the offense with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Drew Farris had a hit and an RBI, while Nathan Hendrickson scored the other run. Spencer Martin contributed two hits.
Michael Graziani took the hard-luck loss, surrendering six hits, striking out five and walking one.
