Ex-Niceville star Wood named Cape's Pitcher of Week

Former Niceville star Austin Wood was named the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week.

Wood, who pitches for the Cotuit Kettleers, struck out six and only allowed two hits in 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 3-0 win over the league-leading Brewster Whitecaps. In another start against Falmouth, he surrendered one run and four hits over six innings.

Wood, who pitched last college season for St. Petersburg College, is tied for second in the league with three wins and is second with a 0.58 ERA.

Wood has committed to the University of Southern California and was chosen in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He has yet to decide whether he will attend USC or sign with the Rays.
