The Fort Walton Beach girls’ basketball team hit the road Friday night and came away with a big 55-30 win over District 2-6A foe Crestview.
The Vikings (5-3, 2-2) took control from the opening tip and jumped out to a 14-3 lead after a quarter of play and never looked back.

Emily Troell led the way for the Vikings with 21 points, and drew the praise of her coach, Holly McDaniel.
“I talked to Emily about setting an example and setting a tone and she really did that tonight,” McDaniel said. “She did what she does really well, stayed within her game and was really successful doing it.
“She really led by that example.”
The Vikings got help from all around. Marionna Pride scored 11 points and Dede McLane and Mercedez Clayborne each added six.
“I thought our girls really stepped up to the plate, really pressured the ball and stayed aggressive. I felt like Emily really took over like she should, offensively she had a great game. Just for the most part everybody did their part.”
Crestview (4-5, 0-3) was led by Caitlyn Chapel’s five points. Latisha Larkins and Solo Pride each scored four points apiece.
“When they jumped out with a big lead we never could climb back in,” Crestview coach Donald Campbell said. “We just couldn’t get it on track in the first three quarters.”
Fort Walton Beach will travel to Tallahassee to take part in the Maclay Holiday Tournament next weekend and Crestview will face Holmes County next Saturday.
