Kaitlyn Brown accounted for all the offense as the Niceville girls’ soccer team came away with a hard-fought 3-0 win at Crestview on Thursday night.
The win improved the Eagles to 12-2-1 on the season and 6-1 in District 1-4A. It also assured the Eagles of the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournament.
But it didn’t come easy. Entering play, Crestview had not last a match in its last nine outings under first-year head coach – and former Niceville assistant – Carl Everitt.
“This is the best Crestview team I’ve seen and I’ve been here for 10 years,” Niceville coach Michael Denton said.
Niceville took a 2-0 lead in the first half and tacked on its final goal later in the second half. Elana Pete, Miranda O’Neill and Jordan McCall each tallied an assist in the win.
Boys’ soccer
North Bay Haven 6, Freeport 3: Matthew Blair, Tony Cosio and Dalton Shost each had a goal but the Bulldogs (1-8) couldn’t muster enough offense to overcome North Bay Haven.
Blair also had an assist on the night, as did Shost and Josh O’Daniel.
Freeport hosts Port St. Joe on Saturday.
Boys’ basketball
Rocky Bayou Christian 71, Ponce de Leon 43: Graham Pierce scored a team-high 17 points and was one of four Knights to reach double figures scoring.
Kyle Wilson (13), Josh Bryant (13) and Jason Rodgers (16) helped pace the Rocky Bayou (1-11) attack. The Knights travel to Maclay to-night.

Laurel Hill 66, Bethlehem 63: Travon Calloway had 20 points and Timaria Calloway added 13 as Laurel Hill (6-7, 2-5 in District 1-A) edged Bethlehem. Tyler Simmons finished the night with nine points, as did Tommy Calloway.
Laurel Hill plays at Central on Tuesday.

Choctawhatchee 77, Tate 35: The Indians (11-5) got out to a 50-28 lead at the half and allowed just seven second-half points to get a decisive win over Tate. Every player scored for Choctaw, but Jonathan Brassell led the way with 20 points on the night and Brandon Mosley added 13.
Choctaw hosts Fort Walton Beach tonight.

Allysa Bump added eight points for the Seahawks.
