Mitchell Peterson’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning put the South Walton baseball team ahead for the first time against Freeport Thursday night, as the Seahawks rallied for a 7-3 home win.

Peterson finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, including his big hit in the Seahawks’ five-run inning.

Chaz Johnisee also drove in a run for South Walton (5-2), which trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth. Jonathan Duncan earned the win for the Seahawks after pitching six innings and striking out four, while allowing four hits and three runs.

South Walton plays today at Graceville.

Crestview 7, Mosley 0: Sam Bass tossed a gem on Wednesday in the Bulldogs’ District 2-5A opener, allowing a single hit in six innings while notching the win.

Nick Brown and Trevor Carnahan both had two hits for Crestview (4-1, 1-0), while Tyler Davis smacked a three-run double.

Crestview plays host Friday to Niceville.

Softball

Walton 7, Ponce De Leon 6: Freshman Theresa Herndon went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Cassidy Contreras went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Walton (2-4, 0-4 in District 1-3A).

The game featured a couple of lead changes until Walton was able to pull ahead for good in the fourth.

The Braves play host Tuesday to Pensacola Catholic.

Mosley 8, Fort Walton Beach 3: Briana DeGennaro only allowed five hits Wednesday, but the Vikings’ defense committed four errors and the offense only tallied three hits in the District 2-5A game.

Lauren Correia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Jennifer Phillips added a hit for the Vikings (5-2, 1-2), who play today at Baker.

Tennis

Niceville swept its tennis match with Escambia in easy fashion, capturing a 6-1 victory on the girls side and a 5-2 decision on the boys side.

Andrea Kovacs, Ashton Huff, Bellina LeMoel, Christy Allen and Monique Kessler all won in singles play while Jordan Johnson and Ginny Catanese added a doubles victory.

On the boys side, Niceville also swept its singles matches, with Alex Lin, Stephen Farrell, Eric Shievinan, Alex Wagner and Hunter Eager all claiming victories.
