Prep Roundup 3/28
From staff reports
Despite the soggy and windy conditions at Mike Long Track on the Florida State University campus, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville left quite a mark on the rest of the field at the FSU Relays, leaving Eagles' coach Sherman Eller to dub the two-day event "A good two days."
Fort Walton Beach's Matt Bevil headlined Day 2 on Saturday, turning in the state' third-fastest time in the 800 meter run, finishing in 1:53.66 to win the event and turn some heads in the process.
"Matt wants to go to Florida State, so this was a good time to have a good day," Viking coach Lissette Moller said afterward.
Bevil was also part of the Vikings' third place 4x400 relay team as well as its fourth place 4x800 relay team. Deiontrez Mount won the 110 meter hurdles (14.40) and placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (42.47).
Luc Lawrence also shined in the two-day event for the Vikings, placing sixth in the 800 meter run with a personal-record time of 3:28.38.
Niceville, meanwhile, received personal-record times from several of its own athletes, including a pair of first-place finishes by Donovan Woodberry, Kody Williams, Roy Finch and Stephen Haynes in both the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays. Niceville's win in the 4x100 relay kept the team unbeaten in the event through four races.
Christian Ritacco turned in a personal-best time of 4:39.60 in the 1600 meter run, good for 11th, as well as a personal-best mark of 9:53.85 in the 3200 meter run to finish 17th in that event.
Laura Nelson also turned in a personal-best time in the 1600 of 5:39.11 while Kaitlin Davis finished fourth in the girls' discus. Emily Sager (34-7.75) earned a third-place finish in the triple jump.
