Fort Walton Beach cross county sweeps Bay Invitational

The Fort Walton Beach girls cross country team was perfect on Saturday. The Viking boys weren’t too far behind.

The Fort Walton Beach girls posted a perfect score of 15 at the Bay Invitational in Panama City, boasting the No. 1 (Iolani Scanlan, 20:02), No. 2 (Holly Stanton, 20:08) and No. 3 (Sarah DeVaux, 20:21) finishers to pull ahead of second-place Niceville, which finished with 87 points behind top-10 finishers Laura Nelson (No. 6) and Marcel Mosley (No. 7). South Walton pulled in fifth with 162 and was led by No. 29 Julie Williamson, while No. 9 Crestview was led by eighth-place Lauren Day and No. 10 Navarre’s top finisher was No. 19 Kristen Cross.

The Vikings also won the boys division with 50 points, topping second-place Niceville again, this time by a smaller margin as the Eagles finished with 79. The Vikings’ Luc Lawrence finished first overall with a 16:48 while Chris Douglas (No. 7) and Matt Bevil (No. 8) also took home awards for top-10 places. Niceville had one in the top 10 in No. 9 Michael Cooper.

Navarre finished fourth with 112 and was led by No. 2 Robert Mann. Sixth-place Crestview’s top runner was No. 10 Jacob Gorlie. Choctaw was next in eighth, and No. 35 Alec Herrera turned in the best day for an Indian runner. South Walton was 12th and was bolstered by No. 14 Jacob Leuze.
