Christian Prep defeats ACD for Class 1A state title

LAKELAND (AP) — Jordan Montgomery scored 14 points and Adonis Burbage added 12 as Orlando Christian Prep defeated Jacksonville Arlington Country Day 59-54 Thursday to claim its third straight Class 1A state boys basketball title.

Arlington Country Day (21-6) had won five straight championships, all in Class 2A. The Apaches dropped down in classification to 1A this season.

Montgomery, a sophomore guard, was only 2 of 6 from the field, but made 10 of 11 shots at the foul line. He also contributed five rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Orlando Christian Prep (26-6) also beat Arlington Country Day in the regular season (49-47). The Warriors made only 34 percent of their shots (16 of 47), but outrebounded Arlington Country Day by two and had 25 more attempts at the line, where they went 26 of 35.

Arlington Country Day trailed by double digits in the third quarter, but rallied to 39-38 with 6:19 left in the game on a basket by forward Justin Jackson. Orlando Christian Prep responded with a 7-2 run, and never again surrendered the lead.
