Choctawhatchee blasts Gulf Breeze
Staff Report
The Greg Thomas era got off to a punishing start Friday as Choctawhatchee rolled to a 44-9 road win over Gulf Breeze behind three Le'Keefe Robinson touchdown runs while the Indians' defense held the Dolphins to just one touchdown.
"I thought our kids really played well," Thomas said. "We played hard for four quarters. It's just good to get the season started. We couldn't ask for anything better than to come away with a win tonight."
Choctaw (1-0) rode the momentum of two Robinson scoring runs to build a 14-3 advantage entering the second quarter.
Gulf Breeze drew closer when Rhys Rinke scored on a 5-yard run to cut the Indians' lead to five points but that would be as close as the Dolphins would get.
From that point, Choctaw took control for good.
Darius Howard scored on a 5-yard touchdown run before Dillan Drake later connected on a 21-yard field goal to give the Indians a 24-9 lead. Following Robinson's third touchdown, the Indians took a 31-9 lead into the half and never looked back.
