Baker splits first-ever home games vs. Freeport
BAKER – History was made in Baker on Friday as the Gators boys and girls soccer teams hosted their first games ever against Freeport.
The Lady Gators looked like old pros in earning a 7-0 win. On the boys side it was the Bulldogs who came out on top 4-3.
It didn’t take long for the Baker girls to jump in front.
Kaley Havens scored the first varsity goal in Baker history about 10 minutes into the match and the route was on.
Brittany Rock, who was one of three Lady Gators to score two goals, then took over with back to-back-back scores that put the Gators up 3-0 late in the first half.
Samantha Skipper and Sabrina Seymour took turns trading goals in the second half as the Baker girls cruised to the impressive win.
Earlier in the week Baker (2-2) picked up its first win ever win Franklin County forfeited a game and getting a win on the field was especially gratifying for coach Tammy Kerrell.
It feels great,” she said. “What we’ve been working on this whole time is improving every game, and that’s what we’ve done.
“To win at home is awesome. We had some girls that stepped up tonight and picked up some scores and we did well.”
The boys game was much tighter as two evenly matched teams battled the entire match.
Dalton Shost scored two goals, including the game winner to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
Austin Fields and Josh O’Daniel scored the other Freeport goals.
Baker picked up scores from Kodi Moen, Josh Mayhew and Tim Smith.
